Bangladesh has been providing bandwidth services since being connected to
the Information Super Highway via submarine cable through SEA-ME-WE-
4 (South East Asia-Middle East-West Europe 4) consortium. The present
internet bandwidth is 44.60 Gigabytes per second (Gbps).
Arrangements
have been made to bring an additional 4 million MIU*km capacity by
participating in the Upgrade-3 process of the consortium. As a result,
bandwidth will increase from the present level of 44.60 Gbps to 140 Gbps
within one year.
In view of the future bandwidth demand and uninterrupted international
communication, steps have been taken to connect Bangladesh to the second
submarine cable. Involving the private sector with this initiative is also
under active consideration
